Why did linens n things fail
Linens 'N Things filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May and closed poor-performing stores of over the summer. In July, according to the Wall Street Journal , Linens 'N Things said business had improved and reduced the number of stores it planned to close to 57 from Two weeks later, it added 28 of those stores back onto the closure list.
Our merchandise will soon be sold. The fixtures will be gone. We will only have what we started out with, the four walls. All the material things will never measure up to the memories. Memories there not going to pay the bills or give us medical insurance!! How could a company, buy another company, with total intentions of putting out everyone???
In this economy, do we really need to have so many more people jobless? We all will have to say goodbye and join the already millions on the unemployment line! I can only express my most sincere gratitude to those who worked along my side while representing a fine company. I wish the best for all who were involved in this enjoyable company. Good Luck in the future. I was on the first wave of closing stores.
I must say that the Company made a valiant effort at staying afloat and staying positive, even amid the almost certain doom that it faced. This was a great company, and I am sure that the local markets will miss its presence.
My largest regret, however, is the fact that this will leave so many jobless right here at the holidays. Industry speculation says that this will probably be the worst holiday season for retailers in quite a while. Merry Christmas to us!! With great sadness today we heard of our demise. I enjoy working in store and all the fine employees that today I was glad to say they were great. With every effort that we made it only made our DM look a lot better.
I hope that wherever we all land, we should keep in touch with each other. Our store was great, because we had a great manager, maybe miniscule in stature, but a great force to deal with. To our DM ,all felt great admiration and respect tough too say, we loved our DM. It is extremely sad and heartbreaking for us to hear that the company that many of us loved and put a lot of effort in bringing up is going down.
Team was a wonderful team. I wish you all the best and make this an experience not to be forgotten. I too was included in the first wave of store closings. It was tough but to all you LNT employees, you will make it through. The timing is not the best, but you have your friends and family to help you. Stay positive. I wish you the best of luck. I miss you all already. Poor corporate management.
This is a sad story, of a company that failed, because the corporate culture was awful. I hope that dave coder can sleep with himself. He was a poor excuse and well over paid copr.
And though some investors were interested in buying the company, they were hindered by the lack of ability to borrow money, said Schaye. He said he expects consumers to turn out in droves since it will be a rare chance to buy useful household merchandise, such as cooking supplies and bedding, for drastically reduced prices. The stores should be completely closed in less than 11 weeks, by January 1, at the latest, he said.
Looking ahead, bankruptcy and restructuring experts warn that retailers are likely to flood bankruptcy courts in the first quarter, undone by a dismal holiday shopping season. The smart ones are managing inventory and practicing cash preservation, because margins will be impacted.
