First and foremost: know which campus you are applying to. Some programs are only offered at certain campuses, so be sure to check which program you are applying to!
To sum each one up quickly: the St. George Campus is downtown, has a huge population, and large class sizes. The unique college system at U of T creates a space on campus for university students to meet through social events, academic seminars, and extra-circulars.
The main purpose of the colleges is to be one of the many spaces students can access to meet new people and receive additional academic support. I lived in Brampton and had to commute to U of T every day. The commute was 2 hours one way, and I took 3 types of transportation. Braden: U of T is unique in its academic layout in that you are not streamed into a specific area of study in your first year, meaning you have the opportunity to take a breadth of courses from numerous departments before choosing your program in second year!
I really wanted to learn more about my Assyrian background. I was devastated and my professor told me I should drop the course.
If you chose to NCR a class, on your transcript your grade will show up as either a pass or fail no percentage. If there is a book in one of the many U of T libraries you need, you can get it delivered to the library closest to you within three days, free of charge. While most schools now have state-of-the-art fitness centres, U of T has multiple. Whether you are a fitness guru or are trying to make a once a week commitment , you can choose the gym that has the right vibe for you.
The University of Toronto could not be in a better city, and in a better part of that city. Toronto itself, is an international city full of culture, opportunity, nightlife, food and much more — everything a student wants and needs.
The campus itself is right downtown, very close to the largest Chinatown in the world, the eclectic Kensington market, the Entertainment district and the Royal Ontario Museum. The University of Toronto has consistently been ranked one of the best universities in the world at number 21 on the world rankings, specifically for its research and innovation.
U of T attracts the best and brightest from around the world so yes, you will have your soul crushed by your coursework and yes, expect to have zero social life. Your reputation is everything though right? The University of Toronto has an overabundance of classes that students can choose from. That being said, it should be warned that sports are not really a priority at U of T..
When you are in high school or you are finishing up that gap year you took, deciding where to go for university can be so intimidating.
Maybe you have an idea of a few schools because of the program you want to go to or from your visits. Here are 5 reasons why I chose to go to the University of Toronto and why it should be number 1 on your list! When I began narrowing down my choice, it was a big deal for me to be attending a school with high regard for academics.
Especially, if you are coming straight from high school, you have to think about picking a university more seriously. You are coming from having school fees covered for you most likely, to paying for your education. One thing that really draws people to this school whether they realize it or not, is how hard the school is in regards to academics. As students, we tend to compete and we need to in order to secure a good job once we graduate.
The University of Toronto does not just limit itself to having excellent academic programs in 1 or 2 areas but in a plethora of subjects. This is definitely true once you start your first year at U of T. Even though, this sounds extremely intimidating, it is actually a compliment. You were chosen to come here for a reason and despite all the other people who dropped out or transferred, you stayed and completed it all.
Why not have the advantage of attending a great program, I mean you are paying for it! This is not something you take lightly.
