What do hare krishnas believe about jesus

Anti-Christian polemicists have been carried away in their attempts to argue that early Christians somehow borrowed Krishna's stories and attributes and applied them to Jesus. The claim that "Christ" comes from Krishna is completely baseless, because Christ is Greek for "anointed one" and Krishna is an unrelated personal name.

Christian apologists, on the other hand, have rejected Krishna as an imposter and a perversion of the savior ideal. Some writers have made much of the fact that many of the Krishna 's stories were not written down until hundreds of years after Christ.

Christians had immigrated to southwest India by AD , so Hindu writers could have known about the birth and life of Jesus. We now know that basic legends surrounding Krishna are pre-Christian, and that the man Krishna, son of Devaki his mother and father Vasudeva on left , is mentioned in a text dated BC. Depiction of the Hindu equivalent of the slaughter of the infants--Prince Kansa's attempt to kill Krishna--is found in a bas relief from the 3 rd Century BC.

Krishna's heavenly father Vishnu is shown in the upper left of the image. Krishna and Christ Compared. There are many striking and instructive similarities between Krishna and Christ.

Both were miraculously conceived; both had royal genealogies; both were threatened with death by a wicked ruler. Krishna and Christ were human incarnations of a triune God; both were tempted by demons; both worked miracles; both transfigured themselves see image at left ; and both predicted their own deaths.

For more read "T he Savior Archetype " here. Krishna and Christ rose from death and ascended into heaven. Christ died a gruesome death on a cross, while Krishna died, Achilles-like, by an arrow to his heel left.

Both Christianity and the religion of Krishna are theologies of grace. Therefore, those who are advanced devotees, who are really servants of God, do not hate anyone. They know not what they do. He understands that the conditioned souls cannot be hated, because they have become mad due to their materialistic way of thinking.

In this Krsna consciousness movement, there is no question of hating anyone. Everyone is welcomed to come and chant Hare Krsna, take krsna-prasada, listen to the philosophy of Bhagavad-gita, and try to rectify material, conditioned life.

This is the essential program of Krsna consciousness. If he is simply speaking on behalf of God, he is a guru. Lord Jesus Christ, for instance. He canvassed people, saying, "Just try to love God. That is the test. The guru never says, "I am God," or "I will make you God. As Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, "Whoever can impart knowledge about Krsna is a spiritual master.

He has no other business. And some people says that there is no name of God. The name is there, but he did not pronounce it because the people at that time will not be able to understand or maybe some reason, but he says there is name. So we are making this propaganda, Krsna consciousness movement, the "Hallowed by Thy name. It is not a sectarian Lecture: Bhagavad Gita 3. The major religions of the world-Christian, Hindu, Buddhist and Moslem-believe in some supreme authority or personality coming down from the kingdom of God.

In the Christian religion, Jesus Christ claimed to be the son of God and to be coming from the kingdom of God to reclaim conditioned souls. Christ comes from the Greek word 'Christos', which means "the anointed one".

Again, the word 'Krishna' in Greek is the same as 'Christos'. Krsta is a Sanskrit word meaning attraction. Prabhupada further says: "'Christ' is another way of saying Krsta and Krsta are another way of pronouncing Krishna, the name of God…the general name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose specific name is Krishna.

Therefore whether you call God 'Christ', 'Krsta', or 'Krishna', ultimately you are addressing the same Supreme Personality of Godhead…Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu said: namnam akari bahu-dha nija-sarva-saktis. God has millions of names, and because there is no difference between God's name and Himself, each one of these names has the same potency as God. According to Hindu mythology, Krishna was born on earth so that the balance of good in the world could be restored.

But, there are many conflicting theories regarding his Godhood. Although Krishna's story depicts him as the ultimate Lord of the Universe, whether Krishna himself is God or man is still a contentious matter in Hinduism. Hindus believe that Jesus, like Lord Krishna , is just another avatar of the Divine, who came down to show humanity in the righteous way of life.

This is another point where Krishna resembles Christ, a figure who is both "fully human and fully divine. Krishna and Jesus were both saviors of mankind and avatars of God who have returned to earth at an especially critical time in the lives of their people.

They were the incarnates of the Divine Being Himself in human form to teach human beings divine love, divine power, divine wisdom, and lead the benighted world towards the light of God.

These two most admired of religious icons also claim to hold the completeness of their religions by themselves. It's interesting to note how alike each one spoke in the Bhagavad Gita and the Holy Bible about the righteous way of life. Lord Krishna says in the Gita: "Whenever, O Arjuna, righteousness declines, and unrighteousness prevails, my body assumes human form and lives as a human being.

At many places in the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna said about His oneness with God: "I am the way, come to Me…Neither the multitude of gods nor great sages knows my origin, for I am the source of all the gods and great sages. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well…".
